Family Law

I have been practicing family law for over ten years. In addition to handling all aspects of divorce cases, I also advise unmarried clients about paternity matters, cohabitation agreements, palimony, and domestic partnerships. I regularly deal with issues related to child custody, child support, spousal support, business valuation, and the valuation and distribution of property. The division of property may involve complicated issues related to whether assets are separate property or community property. Furthermore, accounting issues often arise concerning tracing the source of funds, commingling, and transmutation of assets and debts. Some cases may also involve an attempt by one spouse to gain an unfair financial advantage over the other, which the law prohibits.  Issues of fiduciary duties often arise when one spouse controls the family fortune.

As a former accounting and business professional, I understand the complicated financial issues that many people may face during a divorce. Many of the decisions you make in the divorce process may have immediate or future tax and financial implications. I believe I provide an important advantage to my clients, because of my experience and background. In addition to the obvious advantages of being able to recognize and plan a marital dissolution settlement to avoid unfavorable tax consequences whenever possible, an attorney who is comfortable with accounting can be a big help in cases with complicated financial issues, or in cases involving a family business. Many of my clients face complex business, asset valuation, estate, and tax issues as a result of their divorce.
